Secret 1 - Fandom friendship

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-13 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a statue of a naked person kneeling and bowing their head while presenting a small plate to ask for alms.]

Dear fandom friend: No, I will not chip in to help you pay your rent. You have done several times in the few years I've known you, begging your tumblr followers for help and trying to make it a classist and social justice issue.

The reason you can't pay rent is because you spent $300 on the anime figurines you gushed about to me last week and I will never give you another cent. Grow up.

Secret 2 - Fat-positivity movement in fandom, web games chat

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-13 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is cropped screen-captures of various internet conversations? All the names are edited out or cropped. (Sorry lines anon!)

r: more cushin for the pushin
s: exactly
: only dogs like bones
: I dislike to count ribs as well
: but yes you are absolutely right [blank], a woman needs to have some grip

s: Rodeo saddle
: love handles

:bring it on!

:she has some weight on her hips, but that's how it's supposed to be on a woman

: we call that a good saddle and bridles
: my girl's got a fat booty /comments - love me some fat booty.]

Text from the secret maker:

For all the fat-positivity in fandom, and all the empty declarations by straight women that ~~~~every size is beautiful~~~~ it's the cis[gendered] het[erosexual] (maturer) dudebros in web games I play that make me feel the best about my (5'4" 150 lb) figure.

(A waterfall can be ~beautiful~. Nobody says sexy at any size.)

Secret 3 - Fandom safe spaces

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-13 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a reinforced closet-sized box inside a room? It has a door and the inside walls look sturdy.]

It took me far too long to see that fandom "safe spaces" are bad for me. I spent a year immersed in fandoms where everything was sterilized and having just gotten a job I'm finding the littlest "offenses" and innocent ignorant remarks are starting to shock me to hear. It's become HARDER for me to adjust to real life. I want to shake people I used to know in these hugboxes and tell them the longer they stay the harder it will be but I feel like they would scream at me if I tried.

Secret 4 - How To Train Your Dragon (warning for gore, blood, etc.)

warning for gore, blood, etc.

[Picture is Hiccup? From the CGI animated "How To Train Your Dragon" DreamWorks franchise. He is sitting back, covered in blood and holding a bloody knife with strange expression on his face, between horror and a sort of smile.]

While I do question the sheet WTF'ness of the Serial Killer!AU in the Hijack fandom...

I really wish they made more fanarts of the characters being all bloody. If you wanna make it Out of Character, why can't you go all-out on it!? Dammit! I want some blood! And not in fics!

Secret because: Really, OP?!

Secret 5 - Once Upon a Time (warning for child abuse)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-14 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
warning for child abuse

[Picture is Emma Swan and Regina Mills from the TV show "Once Upon a Time".]

I was adopted. Because I had an open adoption, I was able to find my birth mother. She decided that she regretted giving me up. She called herself my "real mother" and tried to convince me that my adoptive parents weren't real parents.

This show pisses me off so much. Yes, Regina is a horrible person who doesn't deserve Henry either and should have been charged with child abuse. She's still his mother, though. And she did raise him. Emma is not his mother. She made her choice, and she can't take that back now. The way everyone assumes she's his mother and the way she gets to keep him makes me angry.

Bonus secret: I keep watching, though, in the vain hope that Regina will stay redeemed and get her son back.

Secret 6 - Sexism in media, strong female characters (warning for sexual violence)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-14 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
warning for sexual violence

[Picture is a drawing of a woman? with hair reaching her chin. There is an arrow pointing to her head with the word "me" and then the word "Hi!" floating next to her.]

A lot of people talk about strong female characters and how often they go through emotional torture and that's how you're supposed to write strong, badass characters. But there are so many great strong male characters who don't get threatened with rape, emotionally tortured, or any of the things that strong female characters often go through.

Why can't a female character be strong, badass, and not have a moment of emotional weakness or be motherly in some way like some great male characters? It's just not fair that female characters have to be raped or tortured or break down crying or want to have a baby to be considered "strong" while male characters don't. I just want a few badass women who don't start sobbing, or get raped, or get all motherly about everything, but there are so few of them.

I know there are male action figures who go through that stuff, but not nearly as often, even adjusted for the huge difference in numbers of male and female action heroes.

Sorry for the text wall, here's a picture for you.

Secret 7 - Fanfiction (warning for sexual violence)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-14 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
warning for sexual violence

[Picture is Emma Watson playing Hermione Granger from the "Harry Potter" films. She is a young woman (teenager?) with light skin, brown eyes and long wavy light brown or dark blonde hair.]

I really enjoy reading fics about the characters I relate to most being raped or tortured or going through some other sort of trauma. It isn't sexual. I'm not exactly sure what it is.

I didn't realize the connection or how messed up it was until I started having dreams about myself going through the same sort of things that weren't nightmares.

I'm starting to question my reading choices and am mostly just really confused.

Secret 8 - Fall Out Boy's "The Phoenix" (warning for torture)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-14 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
warning for torture

[Picture is two screen-captures of the video "The Phoenix" from the musical group "Fall Out Boy". The first one shows a man on a table being tortured, and the second one a man wearing a dark jacket and a thick glove releasing or receiving a trained hawk or falcon while he looks grim.]

Torture is one of my biggest kinks. Being tied down, cut, abused, etc. The more depraved the better. (So this video is a particular favorite of mine for reasons...)

This part of the video is the hottest thing I've seen since way back when I was a teenager. I'm not sure if it's the look on his face or what he's got on.

The best/worst bit is that I don't even like this band, the people in it, or their music. At all.

Secret 9 - Historical figures, Pokemon Conquest (warning for underage)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-14 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
warning for underage

[Picture is Oda Novunaga from the videogame "Pokémon Conquest". The Pokémon Zekrom is next to him. Nobunaga is a man wearing Feudal era Japanese-style purple, yellow, dark gray and red armor and coat. He has long dark hair tied up and light skin. He looks serious. Zekrom is this greenish dark gray creature. It stands upright on two legs, has a human like torso, and has two arms, two wings and a sort of bird like head but without the beak. It has this wavy ethereal-like protrusions as if they were horns coming out the top of its head. It has two red eyes, but no apparent mouth.

I hate when canons I'd like to get into have characters based on real life. Even when it's really loosely. It feels creepy! And it doesn't help that all kinds of interesting historical figures were actually pretty horrible people.

Like this fucker! I'd have an easier time enjoying Pokemon Conquest if I could just forget that, say, Oda Nobunaga was a ruthless killer. And a pederast. See why it feels creepy?!

This is a secret because I think people would tell me I'm overreacting. I just don't want to feel like I'm condoning murderous pedos by playing some stupid game!
