I guess I fail to see why that's bad? I mean, if you got hugely huffy about it, maybe, but shoot, what's wrong with saying, even out in the world, "Wow, that was kind of a lousy thing to say. How do you feel about Thicke's rape song?"

THANK YOU. I think the environment of fandom has made me a lot more sensitive to the way people are IRL but that doesn't mean fandom is always too sensitive, it means that people can be ignorant dicks. Oh, it would be lovely to revert back to my pre-feminist stupidity, I would probably have less anxiety attacks, it's not like it's FUN to know any better, but we're never going to evolve as a society if people are only called out on that stuff on the internet.

Yeah I would say hugely huffy would describe it. I'd had a cocktail and the person in question was someone who isn't worth the effort. He's a childhood friend of my partner who we were struggling to deal with already, and if I was going to convince him, a tipsy indignant rant was not going to work.

This whole thread is giving me a great perspective on the incident actually...
