We might just interpreting things a little differently, then. I didn't see anything saying that it is a poor person's own fault if they are poor, and that wasn't the implication I took away from what they said. The implication I took away was that a lot of people have no idea how to cope with hardship because they have been coddled and/or conditioned to always expect help, to the point of not knowing what to do when that help is gone.

What the hell other way is there to interpret this:

*tbh, I don't really get how people have the audacity to ask strangers to pay their rent for them. It's a regular, monthly payment and if you haven't got your finances together, that is your fault

Because there's a difference between being in a shitty situation vs not knowing how to budget. This may be a regional or cultural difference, but for me "having your finances together" isn't automatically about being rich or poor, but about knowing what to do with your money. You can be making rent and not having your finances together, and be having trouble making rent even after having your finances together. "Having one's finances together" means budgeting/knowing how to budget and actually applying that knowledge to your life, not being wealthy/able to make ends meet/"not poor".

If you get suddenly fired from your job and couldn't get savings because the job paid so low, then this isn't a matter of having finances together, because you probably could budget, but now simply don't have a budget to actually work with. On the flip side, if you have a budget to work with but won't (i.e. spending hundreds of dollars on figurines instead of paying the bills first), then that's an issue of having your finances together - or rather, not having it together.
