I'm going to play devil's advocate here: if a person's parents kicked them out, or in general aren't very supportive of their child, and their friends aren't in any position to really be able to help them, then the situation becomes complicated.

It does become complicated, but there are almost always options (finding roommates through non-friend sources, renting a room from someone which is a lot cheaper than a full apartment, government assistance, subsidized housing). None of those options are ideal, but they're there for a reason.

It's obvious you've never had to use one of those options on very short notice. "Not ideal" doesn't even begin to describe it.

Thank you. I've been lucky enough to where I've never had to do these things on short notice, but that doesn't mean that others haven't been in those ~not ideal~ circumstances. Shit happens.

Yeah, anon up in that thread apparently has been and was raped by said roommate, but that doesn't seem to be important because "at least they had a choice!"

I can't with the people here sometimes.
