The thing is, it's great when straight people help out with the work because they too want the world to be awesome and equal for everyone's sake. Excellent.

But the fact that there's stuff you're not going to get about being gay is just a fact of the gay/ally dynamic, and sometimes we're going to roll our eyes and vent a bit about the straight dude or chick with the truisms.

Being gay is nothing like Macklemore's song. Macklemore's song is not about being gay. It's about the experiences of a straight guy who doesn't like heterosexism. Fair enough. There's totally room for that - go him. But I'm still gonna roll my eyes and snigger at dude's earnest straight-pain with my gay friends sometimes. Cause I have a lot of anger and bitter stored up and venting is cathartic.

I feel like being an ally should probably also involve sometimes giving the people you're standing with a pass on being dicks, even if only for pragmatism sake. Unless it gets to the point of being personal, you can probably take it?
