(Anonymous) 2013-09-15 03:00 am (UTC)(link)I have seriously never had a job where this was a problem, if handled respectfully and briefly. Like, no, do not go on a tirade about how disgusting/awful/whatever they are, but making it clear that you're uncomfortable is rarely a problem. I mean, yeah, I've been labeled a "bleeding heart liberal" in my time, but never had serious issues with co-workers or bosses over it. Because most of your co-workers/supervisors are also supposed to be polite, whether through official codes of conduct or simply workplace ethics.
Maybe I've been lucky with my workplace situations. I'm sure there are for sure some jobs where this code of politeness isn't the case, or where certain individual assholes are always going to be assholes, but as a general rule, it is actually possible to tell someone to shut up without actually losing your job.
