I'm a grown woman and my sewing skills pretty much extend to pillows and pillowcases. With a sewing machine. I'm just not very dexterous (never really got the hang of crafts, even 'simple' origiami). And I'm not going to die because I can't replace a button.

I will add however, that I feel this way about people who can't their own laundry. No matter what gender.

Laundry is a lot simpler.

I learned buttons but I am godawful at it. And have enough money that I'll probably say "fuck it, lets just get a new one"
