Re: How in the fuck did you take evangelion from that
EvaJaeger pilots of whom one was an arrogant hotshot withmommydaddy issues and thoughtshe was best with the fancy mech but turned out to be second best... Come on, how can you not have seen it?Re: How in the fuck did you take evangelion from that
(Anonymous) 2013-09-14 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)Wait...so being sad that you lost a family member is being "wangsty?" Holy crap.
And wait...when did we see him being "wangsty" anyway? The time jumps right after the battle. By the time we see him again, he's pretty well-adjusted. Yeah, he's not as gun-ho and reckless as he was when he was younger and he does talk about his brother when it's relevant, but he doesn't dwell on it or his manpain--he's more focused on the people around him.
quiet Japanese girl with unhealthy relationship with her substitute daddy
And what about their relationship was unhealthy? He was her father and her teacher. And...and that was about it, really. Nothing unhealthy about it, just an atypical family.
Calling it the same thing as Evangelion is like calling Star Wars and Star Trek the same thing. Yes, the trappings are the same, but they're not about the same thing. Eva was about despair, and a whole lot of it. Pacific Rim was about hope and human connection.

And things go pew-pew.
And they both have really annoying comedy side kicks. In Star Wars it is C3Po, in Trek it is Simon Pegg.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-14 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)Stopped paying attention right there, as you clearly haven't the first clue what you're talking about.

Re: How in the fuck did you take evangelion from that
(Anonymous) 2013-09-15 06:40 am (UTC)(link)The other is a bildungsroman. A story about an untried youth stepping into the role of the hero.
The only thing that's the same is that they're both set in space.
But you're kind of all manner of forced wrong. (Shatner has just as much of, if not more of, a career as Leonard Nimoy, for one. Playing himself, mostly, but still, there. Hamill is actually the more varied actor--Ford plays pretty much the same guy in everything and stopped giving a crap about a decade ago, whereas Hamill does spectacular voicework all over the place.)
But yeah, that level of pure surface means you're either trolling for the lols or purely that stupid.

Other than having giant robots fighting large creatures, I don't see what the Evangelion has in common with Pacific Rim. There's plenty of old school giant robot shows that Pacific Rim draws from, including the old Godzilla films and even Cloverfield.
Re: How in the fuck did you take evangelion from that
How was their relationship unhealthy?
