The most innovative thing about it is that it managed to use all the key sci-fi action-adventure formulas we've seen over the last 30 years, and not suck. Unlike Bay, who sucks. Lucas's attempt to both write and direct, which sucks. And the Star Trek reboot, which didn't really suck but didn't shine either.

And I don't mind a reboot/revival/revisioning/homage if it doesn't suck.

Even if it didn't have that I still wouldn't mind anyone enjoying it, I'm meh on ST:ID but other people liking it doesn't bother me in the slightest.
