(Anonymous) 2013-09-15 03:30 am (UTC)(link)In S1, she is a recurring villain, and is wholeheartedly bad. Then we don't see Meg the demon again until S5- her vessel appears briefly as a ghost in S4, but that's not really her. Meg the demon comes back in two episodes of S5 and seems like a return of the same recurring villain from S1.
But then she shows up in S6. And from then on, she's strangely on the boys' side - something about the enemy of my enemy being my friend thing. She never really seems "good" to me. It seems like her goals end up lining up with Sam and Dean's sometimes, mostly because they hate Crowley.
But the villain who showed up, possessed Sam, viciously killed Sam and Dean's then-extended hunter family? That's not the same girl in S8. Some of that is character development, but some of it seems like a completely different character.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-15 11:41 am (UTC)(link)This is a completely accurate statement, but that's because the show is different in S8 than in S1. The universe and plot of the show have changed so drastically that they may as well be different shows entirely with some shared familiar names. Some people are okay with that, and some people are noticeably not. Those that aren't tend to remember the characterization in S1, and think it's too big for five shoddy episodes to overcome.
