Have you ever thought seriously of

(Anonymous) 2013-09-15 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
quitting your present line of work to start something completely new? Do you think it would work out?

sa

It's relevant to me, as I have done exactly that and I'm feeling people generally think it's a terrifying risk.

All the time. Maybe, if I put in the effort, but I'm too tired so no.

Already done it once.

And it made me substantially happier.

Though it's not entirely fair in that I volunteered in my new line of work first, to get a feel for it and see if I could hack it.

I thought about this a lot
but I know it was because I was afraid of failure

I'm a low-wage office grunt trying to be a writer so yeah.

Every day, but it requires getting my degree first. So working on that.

I hope it works out, because I'm really not suited for where I presently am. Which sucks. A lot. :/

I love what I do too much to want to change. I think there are plenty of other things I could do well, though, but it would only be worth trying if I had both the desire/necessity and a plan/opportunity.

I did it once and it was terrifying. I'm lucky it worked out for me but it almost didn't. I had bad anxiety for a long time because of it all and it took a few years for me to feel confident and secure in my new career. It wasn't until then that I was glad I did it. Before that, I regretted it every minute of the day.

I've thought about it but I actually really love what I do now (I'm an engineer) and have thought of jumping ship to working in the travel industry, but at the same time I love my current field.
