Re: As someone who religiously warns for OCs
(Anonymous) 2013-09-16 03:05 am (UTC)(link)When it's two it's a minor annoyance.
When it's three it start getting tiring.
When it's fifteen (number taken from the latest 25 fic in a specific fandom that I'm into that in the last month has had more OC centric fics than canon character centric fics) then it's so frustrating that I can't decide if I want to give up on this fandom or scream to people to at least tag their fic.
No one is telling them to stop writing. Just, please, tag it. It's not much to ask, isn't it?

Actually...yes...I see plenty of people saying "stop writing it" "just write original fic" "nobody cares"
From my experience OC writers get told not to write ALL THE TIME. (and it's annoying as hell getting a bunch of people saying "Nobody cares about your shitty fic, whenever I see them I backbutton in disgust" rather than "I'm not really interested in that please tag it".
I agree, people should tag and it's good manners just like tagging anything else.
But ...yeah I just had to point that out. If I got a dollar for every time I've seen some variant of "nobody cares about your shitty Mary Sue" in these conversations well I wouldn't need a job.
(It'd be lovely if we could have conversations about OCs that aren't arguments over "good versus bad" one day)
