Secret 1 - Fandom ship wars

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-16 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a little girl crying as an adult puts a band-aid on her arm.]

For years, I've been a fan of a pairing that's hated. Hated because its fandom is oversized and notorious for bashing, wank, stomping on canon, and starting one-sided shipwars. Naturally, I hated the rival ship. It was more canon, more popular and its fans always seemed like the sane and reasonable ones. Always the victims of our bullshit. This badly chafed my ass.

So instead of a more mature alternative, I trolled an anon community, with an obvious strawman persona that shipped the pair I hated, and hated the pair I shippied. Just to feel better about myself and maybe gather up some counterarguments. Much of the community knew I was trolling, but a good number fell for it. I would sometimes feel bad for giving a bad reputation to my hated ship's fandom, but once my precious One True Pairing got slandered I went right back to trolling.

Then I tried trolling a different community, which was loaded with fans who hated my One True Pairing. Everyone who replied to my bait saw right through me, and one of them knew exactly who I was and what I was doing.

That incident was so humiliating for me, that I think about it almost every day, and get depressed over it.

Bonus secret: I'm almost eighteen.

Secret 2 - Cujo

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-16 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the cover of the novel "Cujo" by Stephen King. It shows the muzzle of a drooling, snarling dog.]

I still think all dogs have the potential to "go cujo" on you.

Secret because: "Dogs are only as bad as you raise them to be, it's just a movie, yadda yadda".

Secret 3 - Welcome To Night Vale

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-16 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is white text over purple background.]

I hate all of the Night Vale shirt contest submissions that have Carlos and Cecil on them, because if one wins it'll be like the creators are endorsing someone's headcanon as canon.

I know it's petty as hell, but I feel like the listeners' individual interpretations are part of what make it so special.

Secret 4 - Homestuck

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-16 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a tumblr post with a drawing of the first two main casts of the webcomic "Homestuck". (The "Trolls": Karkat, Aradia, Tavros, Sollux, Nepeta, Kanaya, Terezi, Vriska, Equius, Gamzee, Eridan and Nepeta; and the "Beta Kids": Jade, John, Rose and Dave.) It has the title/text: "Reblog if they changed your life." It has 17,112 notes (people who "liked" it and "reblogged" it).]

This seriously depresses me.

Secret 5 - Supernatural

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-16 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Dean Winchester and Castiel from the TV show "Supernatural". They are two men with light skin and short dark hair. They are both wearing suits (Dean has a "press" pass clipped to his jacket and is taking notes in a small notebook), and looking at each other in a sort of bewildered manner.]

I think Destiel shippers are kind of creepy and pathetic. So I wish I didn't ship this so much.

Secret 6 - The Wire, face blindness

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-16 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a promotional image of the HBO TV show "The Wire". It has the tagline "Rules change. The game remains the same." It shows two men inside a car. The one in the driver seed is looking out the window. The window is partially rolled up, showing the reflection of the car in the next lane, traveling in the opposite direction. It shows two other men looking back at him. No one looks happy at all.]

I've heard so many good things about this, but I don't think I can even watch it because of my face blindness. I already had to drop Boardwalk Empire because I just couldn't tell who was on the screen at any given time and I HATE IT.

At least I still have animation.

Secret 7 - Hetalia

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-16 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is two people (both men, I think?) cosplaying as France and Spain from the anime/manga "Hetalia: Axis Powers". They are both wearing long-sleeved white shirts. France has medium-length blond hair (a wig?), light skin and is wearing a red scarf. He is holding Spain from behind in a dance move. Spain has short, curly dark hair, olive skin and is wearing a red tie. He looks amused.]

I don't normally ship France x Spain, but when I do, it's because the muns of AskCosplayFrance and AskCosplaySpain did it. Then I'm in love. [heart emoticon]

Secret because: Shipping because of Tumblr roleplayers is a little weird, I think.

Notes

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-16 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Mun: The person roleplaying a character in a roleplaying game.

Secret 8 - Fandom friendship

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-16 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is black text over a background with the texture of old, yellowed, slightly wrinkled paper or parchment.]

A few years ago we were really good fandom friends. I respected your opinion, enjoyed the discussions we had, and thought your posts about other people's fics were really insightful and/or good constructive feedback.

Then you decided to take a huge step back from fandom to concentrate on your original work and personal life and, despite our best intentions, we no longer speak...

Having this distance from you has made me realize that you're a jerk. You weren't being constructive or witty, you were being vile and rude. You seemed to think your personal taste in fics was some kind of gold standard that all authors should try to achieve and all readers should emulate. It actually got to the point that you made me feel ashamed for having the kinks I have and I would agree with you just so you wouldn't talk down to me and take me seriously.

I don't know why I didn't see this about you before and I'm embarrassed that I ever followed your lead. I wish I could take it all back and tell you to Shut The Fuck Up and Get The Fuck Out.

Secret 9 - Kid fic

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-16 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the photograph of a baby looking at the camera with something between curiosity and a slight pout.]

I love kidfic but I get inordinately annoyed when I don't like the name(s) the author chose for the kid(s). It doesn't ruin the fic or anything, but I keep being annoyed all throughout the fic. This kid obviously agrees with me.

Secret 10 - Pacific Rim

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-16 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Newton Geiszler from the movie "Pacific Rim".]

I've recently begun work as a researcher for several government projects.

Our disciplines are really nowhere near the same, but he inspires me to be interested and motivated about my work. His enthusiasm is infectious, and I hope I can be as creative and valuable as he is in figuring stuff out and making headway for humanity.

Secret because: I never really thought science-anything would be fun/exciting, but for some reason this fictional scientist opened that up for me.
