His comic screams depression sometimes.

Secret 6 - Whomp! (webcomic)

[Picture is a page of the webcomic "Whomp!".

Panel 1 (A short, fat man wearing eyeglasses is talking with a tall woman):

Woman: Hey! Come to my parents' house for Thanksgiving.
Short Man: Eh? I already have a reservation, though.

Panel 2 (The woman insists, the man looks uncertain):

Woman: Cancel it! It'll be great, I promise.
Short Man: Okay... I need to make a phone call.

Panel 3 (A different, tall man answers the phone excitedly somewhere else):

Tall Man: Hey, Ronnie! How's it going? We're all set up here, ready for-
Short Man (on the phone): I can't make it.

Panel 4 (The short, fat man looks anguished and apologetic, but he keeps talking to his friend on the phone):

Tall Man (on the phone): Oh, I see.
Short Man: I'm really sorry.
Tall Man (on the phone): N-no, it's quite alright.
Short Man: Thanks. Sorry again.

Panel 5 (The tall man is at a fast food restaurant (McDonald's?). He looks disappointed as he ends the call on his phone, while three people on a McDonald's worker uniform stand behind the counter, next to a cashier. There is a pile of McNuggets in the shape of a stuffed turkey on a plate in front of them, on the counter):

McDonald's Worker: Who's gonna tell Steve?

Panel 6 (A man inside a giant mascot-type suit in the form of "Ronnie" (the short man from before) wearing a "pilgrim"/early American settler outfit comes in through a door):

Man in mascot suit: Tell me what?

Text from secret maker:

I really like this comic, mostly to see what crazy offtopic thread will result from it.

I seriously learned about this comic from those Tom Branston/whatshisfaceI'MACARTOONIST threads on /co/ and how people would always share this guy's stuff to show a good cartoonist who uses themselves as a character and is actually cool.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-17 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
:/ Really? This is the comic they hold up as a good example of a cartoonist using themselves in their work? /co/ must not read a lot of comics.

The times I've gone on there and looked at their threads of Tom Preston (yeah that's his name) they will always mention how chill this guy is with his comics and how he actually makes his avatar (what do I even call it) look like himself (unlike Tom).

Ok this just made me incredibly sad......

is it because you felt bad for the mcdonalds workers? if so, I'm with you.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-18 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yes...it was like their hearts were breaking...and his heart.

There was just a lot of heartbreak going on.

Screw her mom and go to McDonald's!

...Maybe I'm missing something, but I really don't get this comic. Can someone explain to me what's going on here and why (or if?) it's supposed to be funny?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-18 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
He was going to go to McDonald's for Thanksgiving and eat a "turkey" made of McNuggets. Because his life is pathetic.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-18 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
yeah but why is there a guy dressed like him as a pilgrim?? Are the McDonalds people just way into him?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-18 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
That's what I got from it, yeah, like he goes there all the time.
