Well there is an entire new TV season starting up along with a slew of movies and books.

May be you need a short break and then get back into the fandom swing of things.

It is not bad to take a break once in a while and reassess what appeals to you.

Pretty much what I was going to say, so yeah, this.

I actually enjoy phases like that.

I feel you, OP. I don't get into movie or book fandoms, I'm not interested in any of the new shows coming out, and all of my shows that I like have been going off the rails :(

I'm a one and only fandom fan, and my show is long canceled. Still carry the torch but feel less enthusiasm as time goes on. Very sad to see. And weird to realize how much that fandom was part of my life.

May I ask which fandom? I'm really curious, I always feel kind of wistful about long-gone fandoms.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-17 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Same. I think I'm over the whole fandom thing tbh. I'm still kind of clinging to my old fandom but it's pretty much dead so it's pointless.

Problem is, I've recently graduated and I'm unemployed, so I have a looot of empty hours. I really wish I had a fandom right now. It's typical the one time in my life I really need the escapism of fandom, I haven't got it anymore.

it sounds like you need transformers

Optimus Prime died again at the end of the Transformers Prime movie, so plenty of grief!fanning. Don't worry, the showrunners have confirmed Peter Cullen as a series regular for the sequel series though, so it won't stick Then again does it ever with the big robot Jesus?

Right now I'm marathoning Rescuebots. I'm hoping by the time me and my baby niece are finished, the third season will be airing and the new series will be coming out. :|

Secret 10 - General fandom

[Picture is blue text over a white background.]

For the first time in a long while, I don't have anything to be fannish about. The last seasons/books/installments of virtually all my open canons have been disappointing and lackluster, and I just can't work up any enthusiasm for whatever comes next.

I never thought that my fandoms were a particularly huge part of my life, but now that I don't really have any, I miss them.

Start fangirling Agents of Shield. Get in early on the fanwank. Everyone else is. Oh and maybe write up a rant or two on how JK Rowling should just let the Potter-verse die instead of bringing out a new movie. Or there is this Britcom called Bad Education which is brimming with Shipping potential, hatesex and teacher/student slash. Or if Granny!Sex is your thing try New Tricks, plenty of potential for wrinkly action.

There ya go, plenty to go on with.

I've had phases like this where no show/comic/movie/whatever catches my attention. But I did find new things to be fannish about after a long drought. F!S actually helped me with that! :)

Maybe try randomly browsing Tumblr? There's so much art there, something might catch your appeal. But if it doesn't, don't worry. Fandom is like the tide. It comes and goes.

Why not pick up an OLD series you've never really watched before? I got into Magnificent 7 several YEARS after the show ended, and I had a great time diving into the plethora of fic...not as active these days, but there's still people who like it and people writing it.

Hang on! If you really need a fandom in your life, something will end up catching your attention :) Else you'll find other things to do.

It may not come from where you were looking for. Maybe try a new domain entirely? Like music if you've mostly been into movies / novels / comics / TV so far?

Usually when I get bored it's because everything is too much like something I've already read/seen.
