"nonfictional character"

Uh...

(Anonymous) 2013-09-18 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I have no idea what the secret is about, I just got stuck there.

that caught my attention too. I'm hoping it's a typo.

Heh, I'm sure it was just a typo. Everyone makes mistakes!

There are worse inspirations than Naruto, and he does have some admirable qualities; if he gives you hope, that's great.

I know a person who applied to UNI to study psychology. Instead of reading to exams, he spent the whole spring reading Naruto, or doing Naruto related things. Three days before the exams he decided that he wouldn't give up, since Naruto wouldn't give up either. He studied like crazy and got in with top scores.

Too bad the author screwed his own moral about working hard and not needing to be from some fancy bloodline to be successful. Naruto is just another "chosen one" character archetype.

Also, troll harder honey.

Seriously, that chosen one bullshit was such a massive fail that I'm still butthurt over it.

That's why there's Rock Lee and Sakura, according to my friend who loves that show. Kishimoto wrote those characters to show that perseverance pays off and all that jazz. And it was the same for Naruto, I can sort of argue, but at the same time he was able to go god-mode a lot so I don't think he had much hope for representing hard work.

I feel you, anon. It may sound silly, but Naruto makes me feel so optimistic! Like I can do anything, change the world if I put my mind to it. It's one of the reasons I love the series :D

(Anonymous) 2013-09-18 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too.

Uhh . . . I don't really know how to feel about secrets like this. I mean, on the one hand, OP, whatever provides you with inspiration. I would hate to have anyone judge the characters I take inspiration from. On the other hand, Naruto really isn't even remotely a realistic character.

I don't know, my problem with people idolizing Naruto is that they tend to ignore that a lot of the faults he has to overcome are his own doing in the first place. I mean, most of his problems in the early part of the manga especially are basically caused by a combination of laziness and desire to one-up Sasuke, not by things like "Oh, hey, I have no parents and no friends and am therefore horribly socialized." I've never really found him that sympathetic.

I'm pretty sure this is a troll secret, because Naruto is no way in hell a hard worker. He was born with power, he was born to be the Jesus of the Naruto world.

I could see why you could admire him in part one, but in part two he is just an unrealistically idealistic preacher who is way over powered.

Secret 3 - Naruto

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-09-19 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Naruto from the anime of the same name. He is a teenager with light skin, blue eyes, whiskers (or tattoos in the shape of whiskers?) and short, spiky blond hair. He is wearing a dark gray and orange jacket, a strip of cloth with a metallic plate with the symbol of a stylized leaf? and he is smiling and pointing his index finger at the camera.]

This is Naruto. He's my biggest inspiration. He's not the smartest or the brightest person in the world. In fact, he failed his academy test twice, scored dead last in his class and was told he could never succeed.

But he set goals for himself, he worked hard to achieve them and denied anyone who told him he couldn't. All because he never gave up and made that his way of life! He may be a fictional character, but Naruto is the realest person I have ever seen.
