I can see that, but those weren't training related. He took Tenzin to go play with elephant koi and to build sand castles at Ember Island. In fact Tenzin calls them "Vacations". Also keep in mind that the air acolytes had no clue Aang had any other children besides Tenzin.

I'm betting Tenzin thought they were vacations, but they were actually lessons.

Doubtful :p Either way, it says in Kya's character bio that she has a deeper connection to her mother than her father, and seeing how she talks to Tenzin about the 'vacations'/the air acolyte scene, I think it's safe to say they grew up feeling like Tenzin was the favorite.

...Are we thinking of the same Aang? The guy who wanted to skimp on his fire-bending training to play at the beach? The guy who spent most of the first season wanting to run off and do eveything under the sun but get to the north pole and learn water bending?

It is kind of telling when you read the comics. Aang flips out on some "air groupies' who had tattoos. They said they only gave themselves tattoos when they learned all of the hundred+ air bending positions and whatnot, and he said "You aren't an airbender YOU CAN'T KNOW WHAT IT"S REALLY LIKE"

And then you see that he didn't take Bumi and Kya, his two non-airbender children with him when he traveled on 'vacations'. And then an air acolyte mistook them for servants and had no clue Aang had any other children besides Tenzin. I wonder why that is.
