I like OC characters, for the most part. *If* they're well-written and if they don't take the place of the main 'fandom' character. Like - i would have no interest in reading a Supernatural fic about Matt and Sally hunting ghosts. I want to read about Sam'n'Dean, or Castiel, or Meg, or Bobby, or other people on the show.

But please, salt your fic with well-written OCs, even give them a major role. Just don't replace the main show characters with them.

I like to *write* oc, as well - it's hard *not* to, when your characters have to actually interact with the world. I also like outside pov stories and those can be really awesome if your oc is a good character.

I, too, get tired of the oc=crap comments. That's not so, and it's stupid when people want to complain that an oc 'ruins' a fic when they're a well-written, supporting character. Not all oc's are mary sues!

I agree. It kind of disheartens me a little bit to see so many "shitty OC comments"

I mean I do like some stories that are fanfics of setting over characters and thus use OCs as mains. So when I see people say "OCs shouldn't be main characters" I just go "Now wait a minute". But they really work best with outside POV stories and things like that. If the major characters are canons they shouldn't wrap their lives around an OC.

Yeah, pretty much. I wouldn't be as interested in a, say, Avengers fic if Steve's love interest were a random OC. It just wouldn't do it for me. But make the OC someone working for the Avengers/Tony/S.H.I.E.L.D who helps/observes, that works for me.

scifigrl47's 'Case Files of the Toasterverse' has some excellent OCs, if you're into Avengers.
