Graphics are overrated. Gameplay suffered when video games started to become interactive animes. More games with shitty graphics guys, lets make gaming good again.

There are always going to be someone complaining about graphics. I swear I've heard the "childish" thing for so many games, I've learned to tune it out.

If the graphics convey the story's message, I don't see why everyone has their undies up their butt about it.

Yeah this, pretty much!

It really disappoints me that for something to be considered mature it has to have fairly realistic graphics to match; I feel like it'd be tons more interesting if video games experimented with graphics, especially 3D ones.

So much this!

I love when games have a different style. I wish gamers didn't complain so much when games try an experimental style. Art is art, and different forms of art is what makes games interesting. I'm not saying every game has to be an art piece, but experimenting with graphics is what makes some games standout.

Oh yeah, give me more Jen Zee (Bastion, Transistor), and fewer CGI puppets using a library of a few dozen mocapped expressions. The art design of the trailer for Valiant Hearts looks wonderful.

And while we're at it, more animation that covers the full scope of graphic design and sequential art, like Book of Kells and Chico & Rita.

Bastion is a great looking game. That was one of the reasons I picked it up.

Book of Kells was such a beautiful movie. Have a game done in that style would be marvelous. Or just another movie.

Secret 5 - Valiant Hearts: The Great War

[Picture is an image of the upcoming adventure video game "Valiant Hearts: The Great War". It has a cartoonish, flat style. It shows a nurse attending several wounded soldier in a trench.]

It breaks my heart that even though this was just announced already there are comments like "too bad the graphics are so childish".

Are you me?

I'm currently at an archive at the University of Minnesota looking at WWI documents. These illustrations are very apt.

I don't think they understand that you can use cartoons to illustrate much uglier stuff without making the audience puke.

At least in that sample, to me the graphic style makes the injuries almost more gruesome than photorealism would have.

IDK if it helps, but I love the graphics in this picture.

fuck graphics. Maus is a 'comic about mice' but no it's actually a pretty damn brutal depiction of WWII as seen from a concentration camp.

+1 million

Maus was actually one of the books my high school English teacher allowed us to choose from when we wrote our final paper. It was pretty damn depressing. IIRC, I was one of the few people who chose that book.

I don't know what this is but it's about WWI which means I'm about to find out what it is and read/play all of it.
