My dad has the same fear about eyes (it is the only thing he has nightmares about). And really it isn't that weird. Eyes are fragile body parts and losing them would be awful.

The anon with OCD downthread made me remember that one of the other reasons I hate eye injuries that that I've occasionally had intrusive/compulsive thoughts about them. My mom has this packing tape dispenser with a really gnarly jagged edge (she's a librarian and uses it regularly with book tape) and I've had horrible intrusive thoughts that someone will attack my eyes with it. If it's lying out on the coffee table when we're watching tv, I try to nonchalantly cover it up with a magazine or newspaper so I don't have to see it...

Every so often I get that way about scissors too, but not nearly as consistently as that creepy tape dispenser! I know it would be a shit weapon to actually try to hurt someone with, but anxiety is irrational like that!
