My friend wrote (well, IS writing) the most popular fic in a subset of fandom. She's a BNF at least in that portion of the fandom. Everyone knows of her fic, or has read it. She updates veeeerry slowly. Like, twice a year kind of slow. She gets shit for this constantly on tumblr; people guilt-tripping her, making her feel terrible about it. It's shitty.

That is shitty. I wouldn't blame her if she decided to stop, pull her fic. It's free entertainment, after all.

No one owes you a fic, people.

My SO has the same problem. They write for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, which has some of the most entitled fans I have ever seen. Commenting multiple times to go "ARE YOU GOING TO UPDATE" and then, when an update does go up, with "FUCKING FINALLY FAN RAGE" is super inappropriate.

I don't believe for a moment that your friend can't come up with a completely different name, avoid mentioning her story, and enjoy her life like a normal person.
