I'm guessing anon can't write/draw for shit and is bitter over people who actually can getting a bit aggravated by the (sometimes downright rude) comments inquiring about when an update will happen. Because they get nothing, they assume you should be overly grateful for getting anything.

Or a BNF they annoy made a comment about how constantly asking for an update was not going to make an update happen any faster.

That is the most bizarre thing to get worked up about. Thanks for translating, btw, I literally could not make out what they were going on about.

I am now having Theme Park Kiosk related flashbacks. "No ma'am you can't sit your baby on your lap while you ride the coaster, I don't care if they let you do it over at [rival park[], have you considered going back there." "Yes sir, I am sure the rules are that to get a prize you need to hit all four targets, just getting one is not 'good enough'..." Oh god make it stop.

Oh dude, theme park? (shudders) I'm so sorry. I'm so very, very sorry. Those places are like punishment for things you haven't even done yet.

I don't know why I was logged out, but the above was me expressing sympathy.

NP. I honestly believe that everyone should be forced to work in stuff like Theme Parks or late night Fast Food places at some point in their lives just so they can appreciate how truly insane humans can be. I think though Theme Parks were worse than late night fast food, at least the latter had entertaining drunks who liked to overtip and flirt shamelessly.

diff anon

But what if I CAN write for shit, and I don't mind those types of reviews expressing joy that I've written something/updated, and think that people who bitch about it are as annoying as OP does? You're projecting.

Sorry I hope I am replying to the correct point, just above

DA: yes, but how are readers supposed to know that YOU don't mind - as opposed to writers who DO mind?

It may be different if you are a BNF whose stance on some topics like comments etc. is well-known, but what if you are a newcomer or simply not a BNF or what if the reader is new to the fandom or simply to your stories? How are they supposed to know how YOU will react?

Having seen a few authors hitting the roof on such 'update requests' or 'update thanks' has taught me never to comment, just to try to ensure that I never hit such a nerve - playing it safe with ALL authors is better than leaving a comment which may be misinterpreted by ONE sensitive writer.

My own 10+ years experience of fandom has shown that such over-sensitive reactions (ie 'Stop harassing me for updates, you're stressing me!') are more likely from newcomers, not BNFs, who simultaneously often complain about not getting comments (or not as much as the BNFs). There is quite a bit of overlap with writers specialize in WIPs and wonder why they never get comments, while rarely finishing any story... when it is well-known that some readers have been burned too often to ever start reading a story before it is complete. But I suppose everyone's mileage may vary depending on their own experience of fandom.

PS: I am a reader exclusively, not a writer, so I don't think I can be projecting?
