So last night I told someone that I though the guy in a pic looked "twink-y" cue me getting my ass chewed off about using the word and that it was offensive to the gay community. Now I always thought it wasn't but now I'm having second thoughts. Any opinions?

As with anything, for some people yes, for others, no.

I've only ever heard it used by gay men. It seems to be more or less an "only okay when I say it" thing, so if you're not a gay man I would say probably don't use it. If you are, well, I am as ever mystified by the many ways of the world and of humanity.

It might be to some but it's a pretty common description in the gay community.

I remember that. I thought it was pretty offensive at the time (like those rare fangirls who use "fag" and "faggy" like it's a cute nickname) but I'm a lesbian so I can't say firsthand if it's offensive to gay men.

I'm a lesbian who loves gay porn, and I had no idea it was offensive lol. I mean, I go out of my way searching for twink porn. What else are you supposed to call slender pretty boys? I've never been in a real life situation where it's been used negatively, either - I just hear it when people are talking about their "types".

But yeah, not a gay man, and though I'm somewhat active in my city's gay community... still not a dude.

Twink is actually an acronym for Teen, White, Into No Kinks. It was first used in personal ads and has always described the same general type of guy. It doesn't make any sense for someone to be offended by that, but I suppose not everything people get offended by makes sense anyways.

What, really? I did not know that acronym. especially since most of the twink porn I've seen is very kinky. and like, Asian twinks.

Hmm, why does this remind me of that one person in every tipping wank who has to tell everyone that tip is actually an acronym for To Insure Promptness?

Heh. I avoid using that word because I always had the impression it's a gay porn tag word and using it in a normal conversation kind of outs you as someone who watches gay porn.

Well never even heard of the word before now as anything other than some kinda of lolly. So wouldn't know. I'd just be baffled

I wouldn't say it's "offensive to the gay community", but I would certainly say it's an insult.
