I did "watch the fucking movie", thanks. I'm sorry I'm apparently so mentally subnormal I couldn't pick up on what was so incredibly obvious and magically divine the backstory I wanted to see from his short appearance. It sure is a good thing I'm not actually active in Firefly fandom or else I might pollute it with my unforgivable stupidity.

You're right that we can infer quite a bit of Book's story; but infer =/= actual, definitive canon. And besides, there's so much of it that we STILL don't know. Why he left, HOW he left (they still know who he is, like we saw)... so really, you're just being an asshole for no reason.
