For the most part, I agree. I used to be one of those people who turned their nose up at Fan Characters (I call OCs used in fandom context that, since to me OC = Purely original/non-fandom related character) and stuff, but nowadays I've cooled considerably and tbh, I don't have a problem with them at all, especially in fandoms where that kind of stuff can be pretty darn neat and/or give you an opportunity to create a fan character, even if it's just for fun. And hey, as long as another person's fun isn't hurting me, I say let them enjoy themselves in fandom if that's how they want to participate.

But I get that the majority of folks don't care for 'em, so I largely don't tag my FC-related stuff (or make an effort not to), heh.

OTOH, I can see the POV of people who only want to read fics/see fan art of canon characters. That's totally understandable. (Like, as nifty as I find other peoples' toons and occasionally read stories people have written about them, I'd kill for some Old Republic fic that's about, say, Kira Carsen's time on Nar Shaddaa, or Aric Jorgan in his early military days)

...But the secret has nothing to do with tagging OCs and FCs.

It's about how they'd like to TALK about them without someone piping up and saying how much they hate them.

Ohhhh... my bad. I guess it was a little hard to read at first. D; In that case, the only people I really talk to about FCs is with my friends, even then, not all that often.

(I am reminded, though, of a person in a not-so-old fandom of mine who pwanted to talk about FCs/series lore and was largely disinterested in the canon cast. It was during my phase of 'I don't care for them, I only read fic for the canon cast', tho')
