They ARE doing their job. If they have enough sway to cancel an order then that's just one part of what their job entails. Just because you don't like the way they do their job doesn't mean they suck at it.

Purposefully trying to cancel an order you don't personally like is actually the best way to suck at your job. Nice try.

not if they make up stupid reasons to cancel. I guess this means that ANYONE in that kind of position who doesn't like a book, can cancel it (if they kind find a reason to)?

How would you like it if someone was doing this with book series you enjoy?

If this were the only bookstore in the whole world, I would be sad. Otherwise, I'd just go to Amazon, point and click, and buy my shitty book there. Problem solved - cancel the apoplectic fits everyone.

No their job is to act in the best interests of their employer. That's what not running your own business means. Admittedly, everyone does what they're doing to some degree, but it's the kind of thing you turn a blind eye to. Not what the job "entails".

Would you feel this way if they were finding ways to cancel orders of lgbt-oriented books?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-21 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
If they were by plagiarists, yeah. It's not the topic, it's the author. I don't care what kind of books she reads she's a horrible person and I fully support any kind of boycotting her.

And i think others have made the point that the book that was *published* isn't plagiarized.

It's a good way to get your company sued by an author who can prove a track record of cancelling those orders. Some of those authors are knowledgeable about how book sellers do their business and follow that quite closely.

Quick, somebody call Heidi!

Seriously, or at the very least, in major trouble with angry customers. You're not hurting Cassandra Clare, you're hurting the company you're working for and the customers you're serving.
