Yeah, support plagiarism! Do your damn job, OP, even if it includes helping a known plagiarist! It totally won't encourage other people by showing you can GET AWAY with plagiarism!

Weren't the published books actually free of plagiarism anyway? Jesus Christ, I hate the woman too, but publishing books that AREN'T plagiarised isn't 'getting away with it' and even if it was she's still not getting away with it because no one will stop talking about it.

Except uh....I doubt most people know there is any "plagiarism" (tho the above commented there isn't in the final books). I didn't until now. So it won't be encouraging anyone. Are you the OP just posting the same comment over and over?

"Are you the OP just posting the same comment over and over?"

I doubt it. Fandom has a long memory, and CC amassed a LOT of enemies in her day. I mean, the above comment could be the same anon throughout these threads, but I don't see any reason to think it's the OP.

I know about the plagiarism. Publishing original fiction after trying to cover up some really dumb plagiarism in your first fanfic ten years ago is not "getting away with plagiarism" what the hell. Was she supposed to go to jail? Public shaming IS the punishment for plagiarizing fanfic. This isn't about punishment, this is about OP feeling cool and powerful.

And yeah, do you dress in handmade clothing, work for a non profit, and eat nothing but organic vegetables? If so, congratulations on your ethical lifestyle choices! Otherwise: I question your priorities.

Except she plagiarized lines in her books! That's not "free of plagiarism." And she's not being publicly shamed, she's being fucking rewarded with a fucking movie, numerous fans, etc.

Links to proof of book plagiarism? And I'm not counting character descriptions from her own fanfic.

She didn't plagiarize in the books. She did in her fanfic (she was one of many people who did so in HP fandom at the time, it was a very common practice and particularly frowned on until people discovered the extent to which she'd done it) but she didn't in her published books. Get your story straight.

It's possible to earn fans and get a movie made while being simultaneously publicly shamed. It happens to women in modern media all the damn time.

It's the job of the publishing house and their legal research team to cover and catch plagiarism, not the job of booksellers or their clerks.
