I think you sound understandably sensitive. While the majority of commenters to OC threads say they don't typically read non-canon characters under any circumstance, there are a lot (including myself) who commented saying that they have/do if the story interests them, and there were some commenters who have said (exactly like you have) that they love exploring canon through a non-canon character (there have been threads like the "OC love" thread that weren't hijacked by negative commenters). Long story short, I think you should relax and focus on what you like, not what "everyone else" thinks or what "everyone else" DOESN'T like.

As someone who writes OCs, yes. I don't care if there are people who hate OCs. It's their problem, not mine.
