You can think someone is a horrible person 10 years later, and still not be obsessed with this person.

I think Tom Cruise is a horrible person. He doesn't usually even come across my mind unless I'm thinking of a list of horrible people.

da

Yeah, but that's not just the case here. It's people thinking she's a horrible person and taking every possible occasion to talk at length about how horrible she is. It's this self-congradulatory circlewank of bashing that just makes me feel gross to witness.

I'm sorry, but it's just hateful to so violently wish someone personal, financial, or professional harm when her "crime" happened 10 freaking years ago and was related to fanfic. People who plagiarized in professional works don't get hounded like she does! Not to mention how often the insults descend into ones based on her physical appearance, though I'm seriously grateful that hasn't been the case in this thread.

I don't like her but I think the gloating about any misfortune that might happen to her is pretty distasteful. People act like she stomped on kittens and puppies; the wank is disproportionate to what she actually did.

Actual people existed in fandom over 10 years ago, you know, and her shenanigans weren't just restrained to plagiarized fanfic. If she'd ever offered any kind of apology, it probably would have defused things, but she didn't, so whatever.

Bullying people to the point that she and her minions called the school of someone who spoke out to get that person kicked out is... yeah. That's worse than just plain ol' plagiarism.

That's a martyr complex like no other.

I agree--a big part of the hatred is that she refuses to apologize, admit she did anything wrong, or even acknowledge it. She really is the prime example of Authors Behaving Badly and that will really stoke a very personal kind of hatred. I mean, this incident isn't even mentioned on her Wikipedia page and AFAIC it's THE thing for which she's known.

People going on and on about her are giving her publicity- controversy sells. Especially if it comes across as obsession.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-22 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
SOMETIMES it sells. Online controversy over CC obviously didn't help sell any movie tickets to her City of Bones flick.

I agree with your comment, and your opinion of Tom Cruise. And when Tom Cruise movies come out, I refuse to pay money to see them (might watch em TV, but won't support him with my cash).

Obviously so obsessed, and can't get over it!!!

(Don't worry, Tom, I'll be boycotting you for 20 or 30 more years. However long it takes...)
