DA. Different strokes for different folks, but to me, "useless" is the bottom of the barrel. Anything else is a step up. Overly aggressive and obnoxious is not ideal, but even if I don't care for the character, I'll still agree with the "at least they're not useless" sentiment.

I think the reader's screwed in either case. Useless characters are almost invariably annoying because they suck and aggressive characters are obnoxious because who likes somebody who's always picking a fight?
