Jude Law's Watson was blown up in the first movie. It's only by sheer luck (and because they're in a movie) that he didn't die.

And RDJ's Holmes died in the second movie, only to be resuscitated by Watson.

So look on the bright side, OP. Even the badass heroes and side-kicks screw up.
