Star Trek has a long tradition of an expanded universe, including a largely fan-created culture of people researching, developing, and roleplaying OC spacecraft crews.

My comment was that we should perhaps imagine feeding the spirk shippers, who may or may not have done much of a close reading of the various sources, to the Klingons, whose absurdly rich fan culture is pulled from trying to reconcile universe lore scattered across multiple TV series and movies spanning multiple decades.
