I guess some people just like weird stuff? It's hard to tell from this what you mean by trollish, but I know people who enjoy stuff that falls into the 'so bad/so weird it's funny' category.

I'm super curious as to the fandom.

They're probably just saving it so they can do dramatic readings on skype.

Or they find it entertaining for some other reason, I dunno. It's still out there on the internet so it shouldn't be that shocking that people will come across it once in a while.

As for story alerts, people on ffn have always been like that. I remember saying "this is a oneshot, THE END, it's over, /marks it as complete" and I would still get people saying "can't wait for the next update".

Secret 8 - Trollfic, fanfiction

[Picture is a screen-capture of the messaging interface of the website "FanFiction.Net". It has a notification from the website itself alerting the writer (presumably the secret writer) that someone has added a story of their authorship to their "Story Alert subscription".]

I wrote a series of very obvious trollfics two years ago. It was fun to get the crazy comments. I let the truth (but not my identity) out at the end. All was well.

Why the hell am I still getting comments and favorites now?

Secret: This makes me really seriously worry for the state of fandom. I can't shake this fear with anyone else without revealing I wrote this crap.

Maybe the people leaving the comments and favorites are trolling you right back?

I still get favs/reviews for the first two fics I wrote and, boy were they horrible. (I haven't taken them down for nostalgia's sake, but I never expect people to be reading them 7+ years later.)

Yep, I wrote some mostly awful HP stuff in high school and it still gets read/favorited/positively reviewed 6+ years after I posted an author's note saying I wouldn't be finishing it. I usually get a follower on it almost every two months or so. What.

Maybe people like it in an ironic / "so bad it's great" way?

I mean, I certainly feel that way about My Immortal (and I know a ton of other people do).

Yes yes, it's so horrible and awful that people like something you created. How awful of those stupid people to enjoy your work!

Just coming here to say this. It annoys me when people judge others for liking their fanfics, even ones they wrote to be deliberately crappy.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-23 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
This. Also I like and have recced deliberate badfic, because I like the deliberate part and often find it funny. But you, OP, sound like a douche.
