People are assuming they are a whiny egocentric because

A) If OP disappeared without specifying that they are taking a break, then they are whining about friends not being worried enough over their disappearance. it's hard to have sympathy for someone who wants to have had their friends worry, and is dismissive of the friends for not worrying enough.

B) If OP did specify that they were taking a break, then it's stupid to whine about friends not contacting them, when they specified they were taking a break i.e. not wanting to deal with fandom things for a while which includes the fandom friends.

It happens all the time because people are whiny egocentrics.

Really? It's not like the OP is suggesting her friends should have attempted to contact the police, she was upset they didn't seem to notice her absence and didn't inquire about her at all.

I've never gone through this and I have zero difficulty sympathizing.

I often think people here have very utopic head spaces. Or were maybe just blessed with an exceptional social circle, so they go on hard for the less than exceptional, regular folk.

Utopic head spaces, lol? No, some of us are mature enough not to decide friendships meant nothing because people we needed a break from, didn't worry about us.
