Choose a car, any car (of these two).

[personal profile] bringreligiontothewamwams 2013-09-23 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
So, I got to choose for a new car. Both econo-versions, but pretty much of a muchness between them. What do you think is better of the two, a small VW or a small Nissan?

Come on F!S, what is your thoughts?

Nissan. VW are cuter but I have seen more reliability from Nissans.

Yeah, I'll admit I'm leaning Nissanwards myself. Slightly more expensive and a slightly bigger engine, but better on the open road than the VW because of that. Swings and roundabouts I guess.

Get the car with the greatest muchness.

Also: which VW? Which Nissan? I'm not a car person but I assume this matters!

The Nissan has better stuff, but the VW is going to be cheaper to run.

A VW diesel will get you from Berlin to Warsaw in one tank.

They're both decent choices. VW's are pretty good in price versus quality and durability.

But Nissan, like some other Asian car manufacturers, will often give you extra options for a low price, and nowadays also had good durability.

So, I'd say, test drive them, ask them for what exactly is in the package option-wise, and go for the car you feel best in and think is cuter.

I'd go for whatever has better mileage, but if it's pretty much equal...uh, is one of them yellow? Go with yellow.

Nah, I pretty much got the choice of gray, gray, gray or "brushed silver" which looks pretty much like gray to me. Same goes for "slate sky" too.

Well then I think gray is your best bet.

I dunno, I was considering gray instead.

But why not grey?

My heart goes towards the VW but I've heard Nissan can be more reliable and cheaper maintenance.

Are they both the same year?

Pretty much, I don't know if VW and Nissan stockpile vehicles like some manufacturers do though. With some of them you buy what is supposed to be a new car and it has sat in a giant field behind the plant for anything up to a year until it was shipped to a dealer.

Nissan! I had a Nissan for years, it never needed any work at all beyond regular maintenance. I luffed my Nissan!

In a lot of places, parts and/or mechanics for VWs are *very* hard to find.

Nissan. I don't know anyone who's had one, at least not to mention/complain about. But VW's are fine until something happens to the computerized bits and then they become money sinks. (Has slightly skewed fondish memories of climbing in the windows of mom's old VW when the doorlocks and windows stopped working. Her current car is also a VW, and started needing constant fixing at about five years old. Some of the fixes have been and are insanely expensive, but she has some kind of emotional attachment to the damn car.)
