WTF is the point of driving a "demonstrator" model? You test drive the specific car you want to buy to make sure everything sounds, looks and feels like it ought to.

Take it up with the motor industry, it is part of their industry model. You go, drive a car of the same model and general type as the one you want then if you like it you can order an actual car with/without some of the general spec.

With some caveats in my case because it is part funded through a help-to-buy scheme. Which means I have limited choice in color (I can have any color as long as it is gray (although I would have said it was more of a silver, but meh) and certain options are off limits (no alloys, sports bodykit, etc).

I don't think I understand it either. I'm in the UK and my test drive was in the car I went on to purchase. I can't understand not getting to drive the actual car you're hoping to buy.

In Germany, it depends - a new car is almost always a test car and you order the car after that accordning to your wishes. But a test drive with a used car would always be the exact car you're possibly going to buy.
