Out of pretty much work with a title, what do you think has the best one?

You'll laugh, but I think "Fifty shades of Grey" as a title is really clever!
(the book, not so much :/)

I've always thought 'The Word for World is Forest' was an awesome title.

The best title of all time is "For The World Is Hollow And I Have Touched The Sky". It's not even a competition. That's just the best. It's too good.

Other really good titles: "Love Is The Plan The Plan Is Death". "The Yukio Mishima Cultural Association of Kudzu Valley, Georgia". "The Beast That Shouted Love At The Heart of the World". "Stars In My Pocket Like Grains of Sand". "Time Considered As A Helix Of Semi-precious Stones". "The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas".

You may have noticed a theme emerging here, and that theme is that 70s science fiction had the best titles. Bring back the absurdly long titles, people.

Long titles did have a short term revival in Fueled by Ramen bands.

Except for the second one of the stories listed I've read all of those. I don't people talking about '70s sf stories often.

And I agree, those are all really awesome titles, as is the Trek episode's title.

(Now I just have to look for that second story...)

"The Yukio Mishima Cultural Association of Kudzu Valley, Georgia" is by Michael Bishop. It's kind of a weird story and he's kind of a weird author. Definitely hard to pin down. My favorite thing that he wrote is "Brittle Innings." I definitely recommend it if you like baseball, or American Gothic, or stories about the South, or Frankenstein.

And TOS did have the best episode titles - I didn't even mention "City At The Edge Of Forever" or "Let This Be Your Last Battlefield".

I know I've read something by Michael Bishop but I can't remember what. But when I was in college in the '80s I seriously read so many sf short stories that I could never remember than all now. But I'll look that one up.

(And yeah, TOS had great titles...)

There's a song with the title "First Breath After a Coma" which doesn't make a lot of medical sense, but boy-o it makes have Feelings. And I've always thought the title "East of Eden" has an excellent phonic and cultural ring to it.

It's the title of a single chapter rather than an entire work, but I liked it too much to not share it.

I laughed , that's hilarious.

I found a murder mystery in a secondhand shop once called And The Hearse You Came In On. There was also one called Coffin's Got the Dead Guy On the Inside, which the music nerds among us recognize as the punchline to "What's the difference between a cello and a coffin?"
