(Anonymous) 2013-09-25 02:48 am (UTC)(link)I will say that some of what you're asking will depend on what exactly was going on [for example, the father would probably be gone longer if there were problems off the coast/where he was patrolling than if everything had been going awesome for a while, or what the weather conditions were where his ship was sailing] so you'll have to make some educated guesses.
Also, another good place to look might be sites that focus specifically on military/Navy history.
tl;dr: Here are some places that it might help to look for information on the Navy at the time/copies of actual documents concerning the Navy at the time - and yeah. It'd be reasonable, thought it would be shorter or longer depending on how much trouble there was/time of year [because of weather related reasons.]
