I agree. It's not much more original to have dozens of puppies and kittens than it is to have living ice cream. Although I'll admit that Electrode and Voltorb are total cop-outs.

I respectfully disagree about Electrode and Voltorb. Because I adore them. And they are hilarious. (Wasn't there a guy in the Safari Zone zoo that was like "Why is there just a ball?" Comedy gold.)

Oh I admit that they're not bad stat-wise, and I liked using them. It's just that - that design? Somebody was totally running out of ideas over there. I mean, they just flipped it upside down to evolve it! They could have at least given it a body or something. But at least it was the one Pokemon that never made me feel bad about my dismal drawing skills, haha.

Well, I like to think they did it just for that joke. Also, they are the perfect trap. You think you're getting a cool item but nope it's this douchebag that explodes in your face and makes you use up all your super potions/leave and come back.

But really I just can't hate Electrode after playing Pokemon Snap and making him play with the Pikachu. Cuties.

It's not the originality/unoriginality debate that gets me with those Pokémon, it's the fact they're based on... food. As in, something you normally eat. Just connecting food and Pokémon in my head squicks me out. (I realized we eat animals too, but it's a bit more removed.)

I think people are hating them just as an excuse from some nostalgia fueled weirdness. And if they don't like a Pokémon, who cares? Nintendo isn't going to unmake the Pokémon.

Can I also say that is a creepy ass picture? Because it is.

It kind of looks like it's trying to shoot blood out of its vagina at the viewer.

I think that's its butt. So more anal bleeding/seepage.

What the fuck is that Pokemon supposed to be anyway? Some fucked up teddy bear or something?

Swirlix - it's cotton candy! (Literally, its description says it eats so many sweet things it tastes sweet itself. Which is... kind of weird, to be honest. People, don't lick Pokemon.) Which is actually hilarious if you live in Australia, because we call cotton candy 'fairy floss' - and it's a Fairy type.

I've already decided that it and Vanillite (the ice cream Pokemon from gen 5) are going to be best friends.

Oh god I can imagine them hanging out, being BFFs, when suddenly, a shadow falls over them. It's their worst nightmare.

Lickitung.

"And here, children, we see a perfect example of Pokemon predation!"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA that was amazing. +1000 for literal LOL.

I think it's cute(though the red bits are making it look somewhat sinister), what is it anyway? It looks like it's some kind of cloud pokémon?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-26 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
According to another comment here, it's a cotton candy critter.

Okay that just sounds adorable, if a little odd but it's not as if pokémon were ever particularly sensible.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-26 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
I agree, I like them too. I think some people dislike them because they're so weird and unnatural. Other Pokémon can be linked to a living creature in our world, but cotton candy isn't alive in our world which really takes you out of the fantasy of this possible alternate world where Pokémon replace animals. So I can kind of get where they're coming from, but I still like them.

It's so appropriate for this to come out the day Doublade did.

But yeah, me too. There have been inanimate object Pokemon forever, it's not like this is a new thing or anything.

Doublade is just reminding me of a Yu-Gi-Oh! card and it's kind of cracking me up.

WHY WOULD YOU HATE SENTIENT COTTON CANDY
forgottenjester: (Default)

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2013-09-26 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
BECAUSE YOU CAN'T EAT IT.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-26 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
Pfah. Pokemon have been established as edible as far back as Farfetch'd.

Go on. Eat that Swirlix. You know you want to.

Nooooooooooo I had to look that up on Bulbapedia. That's why they're rare? "Pokémon are our friends" my ass! These things are supposed to be intelligent and stuff. AAaaaaggggghhhhhhhh I am horrified.

Same. I love the Pokemon that are supposed to have "unnatural" beginnings, like Porygon and Klink. The whole concept of new Pokemon coming into being as human society progresses is fascinating.
