I don't like funerals :(

[personal profile] coffeeyoukai 2013-09-26 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
My great-grandmother just died 2 days ago, which means I'll have to spend the next 3 days hanging around the funeral area at least.

Which I really don't want to do. The last time I was at a funeral, my parents kept calling me out to greet relatives and chat to them from time to time, and as an introvert, I found it horribly draining. I mean, I don't mind going to pay my respects to the dead, but when I'm not doing that, I'm not interested in talking to other people unless I have to, okay?

And I can't even spend Monday curled up in my room away from human contact because I have an exam. Gah.

Ugh, I know that feeling. I don't like being 'paraded' at the best of times, and things like funerals make it worse when I often just want to grieve in my own way.

Sort of thankfully I was unable to make it to my Grandmother's funeral (she died in London while I was on vacation in California and my parents had to drop everything where we live in Ontario to get over there - actually leaving me stranded in the US because they were supposed to meet my flight), but I was grateful when we went to the stone setting in June that my parents know better than to force me to interact when all I wanted to do was hold my dad or mom's hand and cry. :

Seriously, suck it the fuck up. Get your delicate introverted ass to the funeral and do the polite. You don't get excused from family duties because you're too sensitive to associate with the commons.

Dude. Chill the fuck out, will you?
starphotographs: I like him. He kind of looks and acts like one of my characters. (I did not know this when I started liking him!) (Victor (...>:|))

I totally know the feeling. :/ I don't know why it's considered acceptable to ether greet people on your behalf, or goad you in to greeting said people. It seems really boundary-crossing and weird when you actually think about it.

At least it's just three-ish days? That's not very long!

I see that a lot when kids are young at family gatherings. My one aunt was always, "Say goodbye to everyone!" to my cousin, and she had to go to EVERY SINGLE PERSON and hug them goodbye. It's like being paraded like a show pony!

There's nothing wrong with giving a 'group' goodbye, if it's a significantly large gathering. :/
