Fandom inspired food?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-26 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
I just bought some donut holes for the first time ever because they were talking about them on Sleepy Hollow and they sounded good. They are delicious. :D

Has anyone else ever bought some food item because of a TV show/movie/whatever?

At various times I have been induced by shows or books I've read to try: bubble tea, sweetened condensed milk, Thai green curry and miso soup. TBH, the only one I really liked was the condensed milk--on toast. Delicious.

condensed milk--on toast

That sounds...kind of strange, but interesting. I've never used sweetened condensed milk except to bake with, and I actually didn't realize it was a thing people actually ate outside of baked good.

Blue jello, because of SG-1.

I think I've posted this before, but some book (I can't remember what it was; it wasn't very good) got me to try lemon juice and brown sugar on pancakes. You put some brown sugar on top while they're really hot, then sprinkle some lemon juice on top and it will form a glaze type thing. The lemon sort of tones down the sweetness of the brown sugar a little, and it's really good.

At a restaurant I couldn't decide between a Peter Pan sandwich and a Wolf sandwich.

This was when I had first become obsessed with Teen Wolf.

The Wolf sandwich won out. (I also bought Blood Orange shower gel that I really love around the same time for the same reason.)

Doctor Who helped my love of tea turn into a full-blown obsession. Partly because the show sometimes mentions tea, but also because Adagio Teas has a bunch of fandom blends and I have to try them all! The Donna Noble blend is my favorite so far, but I have so many more to sample yet.

I know there are some other times when I've gotten specific foods because of watching something, but mostly... TEEAAAAA.

Food in television always makes me want to eat it, so, yeah, I've made a few things from shows.

Legit homemade trawberry milk is probably the most recent thing.

I can't actually get it

but if someone made a restaurant that served what they have at the feasts in the Redwall books I would be there in a New York minute

You could still have it, but you might have to make it yourself. Unless you know some Redwall fans in your area and could have a Redwall themed potluck:

I bought Poptarts after seeing Thor as I had never tried them before that. And thanks to Kim Possible (I think it was that at least) I found out that french fries dipped in vanilla milkshake are delicious.

I really want to try hasperat! (Bajoran food from Star Trek DS9 -- spicy, meat filling in a flatbread wrap, sounds rather like an alien burrito.)

Maybe a cross between an alien burrito and an alien souvlaki?

When I lived in Japan, I secretly anonymously admit that I tried a lot of food based on anime.

When Harry Potter was still young, my friends and I also tried home-made (or Internet found) butterbeer recipes. I think there's an official one now? I haven't kept up with it.
