I find it so bizarre when people say a character is just like them....then go on to list the things that are nothing like them.

Well, if someone said that and meant the character was exactly like them, it would be The Truman Show. They're obviously exaggerating or talking about the character type more than anything, and it's a pretty common expression besides.

OP didn't say the character was just like him, he said a lot like him. When two people are very similar, it's easy to describe one by listing how he differs from the other.

An SG:1 secret. Yay!

I think a lot of people I know seriously identify as Daniel.

As for shipping him with T'ealc? Why not?

You probably ship it because although you identify with the character a lot and you have many similarities, there is still one glaring fact that changes the game.

You are not that character.

That is why you can ship him with someone who isn't your type. Because to you it's his type.

Ta-da.

1. This is a great (and contagiously positive, I'm smiling right now) secret.
2. You are lucky if you're like a person as great as Daniel.
3. Daniel/Teal'c, yay!
4. SG-1 secret, yay!
5. The fact, that you ship Daniel with Teal'c while you're not attracted to his type (or even his gender) suggests, that you would not write him as self-insert-y way as you've been afraid.
6. I kinda envy you for this secret. Every time I identify with a character, the first things I notice are her flaws.
7. Good luck with shipping! You have good taste, good attitude, and as long as it feals "great", don't mind the "Weird" part.
8. That's all.

Yes. There's something just delightfully cheerful about this secret.

Just want you to know, dude, that this secret is making my day.
