I think you are making an ass of yourself by missing the point. It's not about what you change, it's about letting the reader know what they're about to start reading.

Is the story being marketed as a sexy story for people who love blondes? If so, then yes. You are an ass for not informing your readers of an essential part of the story.

Fanfiction is marketed in the sense that people put it out there in communities and put tags on it with the intention of getting other people to read it, right?
