Re: I found Charlie Brown sad, not funny

Supposedly (though Schulz's family denies loudly), Schulz fought with depression most of his life, and on his worst days, he'd take it out on Charlie Brown.

That being said, everything I've read from other cartoonists about him makes him sound like a marvelous, generous human being.

Charlie Brown's stories are sad. He's too shy to talk to the little red-haired girl, his dog has a more adventurous life than he does, he really only has one friend (Linus), he can't win at anything he loves...he's a very sad little kid. But he usually faces things with a smile and hope, which is why I love him.
