And some readers read trans*fic because they want to read about how the character deals with gender dysphoria, and depending on what fandom one is in, how gender dysphoria is treated in their society.

(I am following a dysphoria fic. It is no secret that I am in the Hobbit fandom, so part of the point of the fic is how the races in Middle Earth treat dysphoria.)

Warning: If you dislike incest, you should reconsider. The pairing is Fili/Kili, and there's some pretty strong smut - it's a fic done from a transcribed RP. If those aren't problems though, I will say I think it's pretty good, and the dysphoria issues are handled pretty well.
