Hindsight is Crazy as Hell

[personal profile] kaijinscendre 2013-09-27 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Rewatching Land Before Time to make GIFs and realized Littlefoot's mother's advice to find the Great Valley is stupid as fuck. "Past the Great Rock that looks like a long neck...pass the mountains that burn." That is it. A rock and a burning mountains.

What things have you gone back to read/watch/play and your realized they are silly/stupid/WTF?

In the first episode of the magic school bus they do a dramatic close up of Arnold's crotch

Nothing really, because I have awesome taste. I usually end up thinking "Why didn't I like this as a kid?!? This is awesome!" as opposed to the opposite.

'Ren and Stimpy' and 'Rocko's Modern Life' are even more fucked up than they seemed to me as a kid. I guess my brain skimmed over the weird shit I didn't get.

(Where do you post your gifs? I love making gifs but the programs I use are... primitive.)

I post them on my tumblr. I use photoshop cs4. http://avengetheangels.tumblr.com/mythings

They are not the greatest but I have definitely gotten better.

And Ren and Stimpy is sooooooo dirty.

Huzzah! I am glad you told me because Tumblr sure as hell didn't. I don't know why sometimes it tells you and sometimes it doesn't. :C

I had that reaction with Batman: The Animated Series: about 15 years after the fact. "I was the exact right age for this. Why wasn't I watching it? It's great! What the hell was I doing instead?"

Yeah but big rock and burning rocks. It isn't something I am real torn up about. I just remember it being a lot more detailed as a kid.

Maybe she didn't have a very clear idea where it was, herself?

As for my own hindsight, pretty much everything in the Pokemon show. I loved it dearly, and it still holds a place in my heart, but man, the people in that show were dumb as rocks.

I hated how they never recognized Jesse and James (but that goes along with many children's shows with disguises).

Especially Magical Girl shows. How can't you recognise Usagi? If not because of the face, that hair is pretty telling, damn it!

Thing is tho, shows where the magical girls ACTUALLY CHANGED APPEARANCE, like Kami Kazae Kaito Jeanne, EVERY ONE AND THEIR MOM FIGURED OUT WHO THEY WERE.

Like...wat? How?

How did Maron and Jeanne even LOOK the same? One was brunette, had brown eyes, and kind of mousy (if i got the word right) and the other had long blonde hair and purple eyes.

Instinctual migration

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2013-09-28 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
he always knew where to go. The landmarks were just to help because he was so young.

Besides, it didn't matter what direction he went in. It was purgatory. He was going to face his trials. After all EVERY DINOSAUR IN IT WAS ALREADY DEAD AFTER THE FIRST PART.

His mom got to skip Purgatory and go straight to Dino Heaven 'cause she was a badass and curbstomped that Sharptooth.

I assumed the Great Valley was passed down as legend and any more specific information on how to get there had been lost to the mists of time.

In a fit of "I just got Netflix and it keeps recommending kids' stuff I vaguely remember to me," I watched The Adventures of the American Rabbit and Rainbow Brite and the Star Stealer last year. Oof. Not like I was expecting genius, but my god those were both painful. I also found a cheap DVD of Pound Puppies: The Legend of Big Paw at my grocery store recently and I'm pretty sure I'll cave and buy it out of nostalgia even though I know it will be terrible through adult eyes.

(I am so embarrassed about having once been a kid with a kid's taste. I know it's ridiculous.)

I remember thinking Rainbow Brite was like....the most amazing show ever. It was so colorful and happy.

I was really shocked when my memories of Krys and Brian did not match reality at all in Rainbrow Brite and the Star-Stealers.
