Do you like your job?

And is it what you want to do?

I'm not working anymore, but I still help the English teacher at the primary school I used to teach at whenever she has trouble and I really enjoy it. I'm pretty sure I'd like to continue teaching full-time someday, although hopefully at a higher level than primary school.

Teacher's Assistant in Awful Classroom

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah. No. every day worse things happen.

You again?

They show up every day, it seems like.

(Anonymous) 2013-09-28 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. I was surprised they didn't take it as a chance to burst into another rant about their job.

ayrt

(Anonymous) 2013-09-28 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
1) They asked about jobs and whether they are liked
2) Apparently it is abnormal to show up every day in Fandomscrets. Huh.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2013-09-28 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's not like we have regulars here or anything.

Re: ayrt

(Anonymous) 2013-09-28 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
It's not abnormal to have regulars - but when one *anon* is a regular because they keep complaining about the same thing? *THAT* is a bit odd.

NGL, I got sick of reading personal posts on here a long time ago. Though I have skimmed the ones in question, I usually just ignore them. You can do that too.

OC

I do. I'm just mildly amazed at how often this person comes back to complain.

Re: Teacher's Assistant in Awful Classroom

(Anonymous) 2013-09-28 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Shrug.

They need people to listen and give feedback. There are people here who do that. They might not have another outlet.

I don't mind generic office work and customer service, but I wanna be a pro-writer.

So I'm gonna get off f!s and go get some work done.

Yep. Wanted to be an engineer, went to engineering school, became an engineer. Bam. Job success.

I wish it paid more, but I suppose that's the sacrifice made for the security of being a state employee.

What do engineers do?

Re: Do you like your job?

(Anonymous) 2013-09-28 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Depends on the type. I'm a civil engineer with an emphasis in structures, and I design bridges.

I'm in the field I was aiming for. My exact job isn't at all what I pictured myself doing (mostly out of ignorance of what kinds of jobs are actually available in the field and what they really involve) but I absolutely love it and I think it's far more exciting (if lower-paying) than the kind of thing I assumed I would be doing when I started down this path.

HELL NO. I am a shy, angry, overeducated and easily-bored person who works in retail. Think Wanda from Corner Gas, only without the kid. I want out so bad, but I have no idea what I actually want to do.

I hate the standing around and the push to always sell, and the company, and the people involved, and the policies, and the lack of training, and not wearing sneakers and how fucking expensive shit is that I have to peddle...but weirdly, the point I thought I'd hate the most - the customers - are pretty much the shining joy in my day. I'll often get asked some random question about where to eat and what to do around here (lol nothing). Even today a man asked me if 70$ a year for MS Office Suite was good, and I gave him a list of free word processors and powerpoint readers and spreadsheets.

It's boring but it could be worse.

Re: Do you like your job?

I love my job. I'm pretty physically and mentally unwell, so having a job with flexible hours that I can do from home is perfect for me. It doesn't pay all that well with the hours I can do, but it's enough that I don't have to ask for money from my boyfriend and can contribute towards the rent during good months. It's mentally stimulating enough that I don't get bored, although sometimes the clients are have opinions that I find disgusting, and the company I subcontract for have always been really understanding when I've had a bad spell and need a few days without being assigned work. I've been with them for two years now, which is the longest I've ever held down a job before.

I love my company. Can't stand the disorganization or how whiny my coworkers can be. They make everything fun not that way.

Eh, it's ok. I'm far more active than I ever was because of it, but it's not what I want to do. I only got it cause I needed one AND it provides insurance.
