I am the opposite. I lock during a shower, but never any other time. I'm not entirely sure why I do that, now that I think about it, lol. But our lock is just an old fashioned hook-and-eye latch, so if someone needed to bust in, they could simply stick a magazine in the crack and flip the latch up.

Huh, interesting.

Ours is a push-in kind of lock on the handle so there's no real way to get in without busting the door. So that's why.

There isn't a little hole in the center of the doorknob? All the push and turn locks I've ever seen have those, because then you can take a stick or whatever and unlock the door that way, I'm assuming for 'oh shit I locked myself out of the bathroom' reasons and not 'oh shit Jimmy's been in the bathroom five hours what if he died' reasons.

It does but I have no idea what could fit in there that we have lying around the house to make it open.

Plus, if you hear a loud thud, which you will if you fall in the showers in my house, you kinda just want to get in and not have to rush around the house looking for something small and long enough to fit in a hole.

There's no chance of you accidentally walking in when someone else is taking a shower because you will hear the water running. So there's no reason to keep it locked during a shower.

Straightened out wire clothes hanger would do it. So would a tiny screwdriver, and those are useful for a lot of things so it's handy to keep them around. I grew up in a house that had those doorknobs, and we kept a tiny screwdriver on the top of the door jamb for such occasions.

A bobby pin. A large opened safety pin. An embroidery needle. A nail.

My childhood was basically an exercise of getting creative with household items in order to get into locked bedrooms and steal my shit back from siblings.

Still none of those. I have tiny needles for patch up work but I think they would be too small. Pens are too big.

The only thing I can think of working is a hair... divider thing that I have. I'm not exactly sure what it's supposed to be. The only problem is that it's kept in the bathroom and so would be locked inside with the person outside.
