I watched a documentary on this once and the guys who owned them seemed really sad, to me. They were cripplingly insecure and couldn't handle even talking to a woman. They liked real dolls because the dolls weren't a threat. It's been a while since I watched it to I can't recall exactly what they said, I just remember being angry at first and then feeling really sorry for them.

The one that comes to mind was that one Davecat guy in love with his "synthetic partner"; I think he was on My Strange Addiction and Taboo.

[sigh] DW isn't letting me embed the video, so this is the guy I'm talking about.
