I came to second Quantum and Woody.

The TF comic I just honestly don't believe you about, though. I've never seen anyone other than a TF fan say a anything about it, good or bad.

...because if you read a Transformers comic, you're usually a Transformers fan?

It's not one of the things that people not interested in the franchise tend to grab for a random new try.

Glad you said it. There was a bit more facepalm and probably a few more insults in the response that went through my head. :)

Wish more people WOULD give it a random new try though. I actually did - I am a devoted capes fan - and MTMTE is something special.

Other recs:

I have heard really excellent things about the current Hawkeye comic, although I don't read it, and every panel I've seen has been good.

Also, the Blue Beetle run beginning in 2006 (with Keith Giffen and John Rogers writing) was really well-written and funny, especially Jaime's family and friends. That was the only comic I actually bought in issues for a long, long time.

I said it in my comment, but I'll put it here too:

Perhapanauts (by the guy who wrote Young Justice. Lots of fun, lots of heart, lots of fun fun monsters and mystery and some romance too)

Atomic Robo. Is a perfect comic. Pick up any trade, you'll always be able to follow, because each is designed to stand on its own. It's fun. It's silly. It's inspiring. It's science-y. It has Carl Sagan in it sometimes.

Young Avengers is pretty fun too, feels a bit like a Young Justice successor, but a little more serious. Hawkguy has dark or sad moments, but the attitude of the comic itself is one of a guy who doesn't take himself too seriously.

If digital isn't an issue, Amelia Cole bounces between silly and serious, but is almost never dark. And IDW just printed the first trade.

Princeless! It's fun, and funny, and has gorgeous art. Basic plot is "princess is one of 7 sisters locked in towers to be rescued. One of them decides to rescue herself instead, then goes adventuring to rescue her sisters." it's from action lab comics.

Kelly Sue DeConnick is laugh-out-loud funny for me in her humorous scenes. (There are sad, serious scenes in her work, as well. But the funny parts are really funny.) Try the current, ongoing Captain Marvel and Avengers Assemble comics.
